The itchies
This morning Savannah woke up complaining that the back of her ears itched. I thought maybe it was her glasses making her itch. I put some calamine lotion on it and told her that if the itching gets worse at school to tell the teacher and go to the nurse so she can call me to pick her up early from school.
At about 11:30am I got a call from the school nurse that Savannah was itching all over and was very uncomfortable. Since I was in Fullerton at Amanda’s thumb therapy which is about a 1/2 hour away from home and school, I had the nurse call Cliff at home to have him pick up Savannah. I made a dr’s appt for Savannah at 2pm.
Savannah was in agony. The dr. took a look at her. She was now itching all over her body and there were little read welts all over. The dr. said she is having a reaction to something. He asked me if she had any known allergies and I couldn’t think of any. She had been taking Amoxicillin for the past week for the pink ear that Dr. Gonzalez had seen almost 2 weeks ago. She had also pulled weeds on Saturday and she has also ridden on the pony rides and petted the critters at the petting zoo at the Easter Egg Hunt at La Habra Heights. Ugh, it could be a multitude of anything causing the reaction!
The dr. prescribed an oral steroid and an oral medice much stronger than Benadryl. He also order blood lab tests for Savannah to check for food and other things that could be giving her an allergic reaction. Oh that is going to be fun…5 vials of blood to take from her. Savannah is scared to death of needles. I remember the last time we had to do this she was 2-1/2 and they had to papoose her to do the blood draw…the poor baby. I think I am going to let Cliff take her this time!!
I am waiting for the prescription to be ready at Rite Aid Pharmacy. The itching has now spread to Savannah’s feet and ankles. Her scalp is itching too. Hugs to my poor baby girl!!
